This isn't our video, by the way - Jared took some videos but I'm too lazy right now to try to get them off his phone.
About a month before that concert, we took a trip up to Idaho and Washington to visit my brother Wes and sister Jill and their cute little families.
In Idaho, we had dinner at Flying Pie Pizzeria with Wes and Elizabeth and their daughters:
Ali

Sophia
Aren't they beautiful?
Afterwards, we went to a really pretty rose garden in a park in Boise.
Then we went to yet another beautiful park (it seems like there are hundreds of parks in Boise) and walked around, saw a deer, and fed the ducks / geese.

It was a very nice day in beautiful Boise.
The next morning we woke up and continued our trip up to Glenoma, WA.
About 8 or 9 hours later, we arrived. Somehow I forgot to take pictures of their beautiful farm, but here are some I stole from my sister's blog:

Pretty much amazing.
We got to see my cute neices (pictures yet again stolen from Jill's blog):

Lia

Eden
Unfortunately, I didn't start taking pictures until a few days after our arrival, when we set off for Astoria, Oregon. We visited the Astoria Column:
Yes, we did go to the top. And yes, it scared the living daylights out of me.

That's me on the right side of the picture - staying as far away from the edge as I possibly can and holding on super tight to little Eden. Lia seems unaffected, lucky girl. We threw little wooden airplanes off into the wind when we were at the top - it made me feel like I was throwing myself off of the edge as well. EESH!! But definitely worth it, and very fun!
We ate at the Bowpicker - it's basically a little boat sitting in Astoria, Oregon that serves scrumptious fish and chips.

That night we camped at Fort Stevens State Park. We made some raccoon friends by throwing marshmallows... (don't tell anyone. Top secret.)
The next day we visited Battery Russell:
We also went to the beach. Sadly it was a pretty cloudy, cold day, but it was still nice to see the ocean. It had been years for me!
We visited the "Peter Iredale" shipwreck. It was "an oceangoing ship that was wrecked near the mouth of the Columbia River in the early part of the century." source
Shortly after this picture was taken, little Eden stepped a little too far into the puddle (seen in the picture 2 pictures up) and fell face-first into the water (her head missed some metal by just a couple inches.) That water is deeper than it looks. And freezing cold. It felt like she was in that water face down for seconds, but it was likely only milliseconds before Mark quickly stepped in and picked her up. It was really scary. They quickly took her wet clothes off and wrapped her in a towel. She was talking about it for days after. Thank goodness she was okay.

We spent the rest of the time watching people dig for clams. Lia had fun running around in the water for a bit as well.
Later we visited a museum. I can't remember the name of it but it was really interesting - it was sort of like a tour of the history of the Fort Stevens area - Lewis and Clark, etc. I only got a picture of Jared outside of the museum:
He looks cold.
We headed back to Glenoma and spent the rest of the time hanging out on the farm. It was a really fun, eventful trip and I'm so glad we did it!
More updates on our summer to come...
Yay! I haave wanted to see the pictures you took on our trip! The pictures from battery russell are like whoa awesome. Seriously. All your pictures are lovely, but those especially stood out to me. We had all these camping trips planned for this summer and that one was the only one we actually did. Sad, but at least we got out once. Miss you!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have been having lots of fun. The pictures are great. Isn't it funny how Lia is always having fun and smiling no matter where she is or what she is doing? Poor little Eden fell in the water. She looks pretty comfy snuggled up in that towel in her Daddy's arms
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was a fun trip! Those are some great pictures!
